Command Words and Exam Advice

This is important for your prelims and indeed your final exam.

You have to be aware of what the question is actually asking!

Intermediate 2

Command word	Definition
Compare	Identify similarities and differences between two or more factors
Define	Give a clear meaning
Describe	Provide a thorough description
Distinguish	Identify the differences between two or more factors
Explain	Give details about how and why something is as it is
Give	Pick some key factors and name them
Identify	Give the name or identifying characteristics of something
Name	Identify or make a list
Outline	State the main features
Suggest	State a possible reason or

Also remember if the question is worth 6 marks, then give 6 good points that will earn you marks.

Imagine you are communicating with someone who isn't a Business Teacher or Student. So always ask yourself: "What do I mean by that?". Justify your answers where possible.

Avoid bullet points and write in nice neat sentances. This will make it easier for the marker to read and minimise the chance of you losing marks due to a misunderstanding.

Section Two - you answer TWO questions of your choice from the five available.
